Boulder Workshop Description

This two-day workshop is about finding your own way into abstraction through nature. We’ll begin with close looking—shapes, rhythms, colors, and lines found in the Boulder landscape—and move toward personal expression. Through studies, layering, and guided exploration, you’ll learn to translate what resonates with you into rich, luminous surfaces.

Over the course of the weekend, you’ll:

Develop a process for expressing the essence of place in abstract form.
Layer paint to create surfaces with depth, transparency, luminosity, and drama.
Explore how color carries emotional and visual impact, and learn to harness that power.
Create lines and shapes that are alive, with rhythm and presence.
Discover compositions that hold energy and scale well into larger works.
Work briefly with collage elements as part of building surface complexity.

By the end, you’ll leave with studies, one or two developed paintings, and a fresh approach to translating nature into abstraction.
