The Location
We’ll stay at Casa de la Noche, a restored 1930s boutique hotel tucked behind flowering courtyards in San Miguel’s historic centro. It feels like a private garden home—quiet, art-filled, and steps from galleries and cafés. The main square (El Jardín) is an easy five-minute walk, making it effortless to explore the city between studio sessions.
Expect warm, personal hospitality and spaces that support creativity: leafy patios, a guest kitchen, a dedicated project studio, and original art throughout the property. Room types are limited and assigned first come, first served—There are 14 single occupancy rooms, price depends on room size and a few room amenities. Feel free to peruse Casa De La Noche's website to view them.

Daily Program (Saint Miguel Allende)
8:00–9:00 AM — Breakfast A gorgeous breakfast to start the day, then into the studio.
9:00 AM–12:00 PM — Morning StudioFocused work in acrylics and R&F Pigment Sticks (acrylic-only is absolutely fine). Short demo or prompt to open; we’ll build skills in abstract painting, composition, and color, using San Miguel’s exquisite light and saturated palette as fuel.
12:30–1:30 PM — Lunch in the CourtyardTime to refuel, compare notes, and reset.
2:00–4:30 PM — Afternoon StudioLayering, color decisions, and composition refinement with individual coaching so you leave with momentum and clarity.
After 4:30 PM — Exploration & InspirationPlenty of free time to wander the historic centro. On select days we’ll take short walking tours to gather reference—quick sketches and photos that become “snapshot” imprints of texture, light, color, energy, and rhythm back in the studio. Spring is a season of renewal; this week is designed to amplify that feeling. Fair warning: you may want to move here after this experience.

I have been on two retreats with Andrea, one in France and one in California. I enjoy the overall balance of the days, and I love all of the exercises and prompts. At the end of the last one in California, I produced a canvas that I was proud of. It will have pride of place over the fireplace, and it will also inform the glaze I put on the tiles. I still have good energy from the week in a peaceful, creative space that I will continue to use into the winter months. Thanks for your support, fresh take on abstraction, and for providing a safe space for experimentation.”

I attended my first five-day retreat with Andrea at Willowpond SLO in California in August 2025. One of the exercises that really resonated with me was the shape-finding exercise—it offered a unique and engaging approach to observation, and I’ve even started keeping a “shape journal” to actively look for and record shapes in my surroundings. Now I definitely struggle less when approaching space compositions because I have a wealth of shapes to choose from. I just completed a large 48 × 48 with help from my shape lexicon this past week—funny enough, this piece sold this last Saturday!
I enjoyed our art critiques very much—so positive and helpful without feeling judgy. Your teaching style is very professional: detailed guidance and patience; you leave those in a flow state alone and help those at a standstill. That’s the best way to guide an art class in my opinion.

How does one describe an instructor who created an art retreat that exceeded your expectations?
Willow Pond, where the studio and lodging took place, set the stage for five remarkable and intensely creative days.
Andrea's instruction helped direct each student to solve their own challenges without overreaching. In addition, Andrea wasn't afraid to try new exercises that allowed the students to stretch in ways unfamiliar to them.
I highly recommend any of her retreats if you are looking to take your creative process to the next level.
