Capture the essence of place in an Abstract painting

Trying to capture the essence of a place in an Abstract painting can be an elusive process. Anyone who creates abstract paintings referencing landscape, cityscape, interiorscape, or anythingscape, loves the quality of an abstract painting that seems vaguely familiar without hitting your viewer over the head about what and where that place is. In this video I've broken down my process to getting to that coveted result, ie finding the essence of place, working from an image. I've broken it down into four steps. Hope you find it useful.
